SIMPLICITY vs COMPLEXITY

SIMPLICITY vs COMPLEXITY            Leonardo da Vinci said before simplicity is the final  sophistication in architecture. Simplicity in design will make us feel peace or inspires us, not only in architecture but also in other forms of design. Simplicity is a thing that is plain, natural or can be easy to understand.           My final project in design 3 when i was in diploma is to design a rest and relax centre for backpackers. The location of site at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, which are huge crowds of people. The main purpose of this project is to build a place to let the backpackers feel relax when they having a rest there. My case study for this project is the U House located at Tokyo, Japan. This house is built by Toyo Ito in 1976. The design for the house actually is L-shape but Toyo Ito's sister comes out a new design with visual relationship between the houses. This make the U-shaped design separate...

SIMPLICITY AND COMPLEXITY

SIMPLICITY AND COMPLEXITY Regards of simplicity and complexity which we had discussed from the lecture today, I will be discussing about the design project that I had developed during my Year 2 Sem3. In the project, we are required to design a Art Gallery in a specific site which located in Shah Alam. The reasons I choose this specific project is because I find that the layout design and outcome of the building suits well to the ‘Simplicity’ concept. Simplicity ,t he result is a beautiful rhythmic quality. Repetition with a simple expression of materials creates the  architecture's simplicity .  The building basically is a two storey building which blend in with natural and modern element.   From the ground floor , the first thing we can see is  the lobby and the reception area which is located in the middle of the building. As the building is purpose for the people who doing quilting activity , so the lobby is set at a moderate area whi...

SIMPLICITY X COMPLEXITY (HUZAIFAH)

SIMPLICITY    X    COMPLEXITY     Simplicity is a process of adhering to the essence of use, to lack of ornament and to minimize the technical productibility and expressive rigor of utensils. Simplicity made contraction itself clear and comprehensive without denying its existence and its value as a material for establishing different. during my diploma last year, i was given a project to design a RnR centre for backpackers at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. The main purpose this project is a place for backpackers to give a sense of peaceful and relaxes feeling . My case study for this project is the Douglas House by Richard Meier , my approach its analysis is not merely based on the technique that is used by him, but on how organizational principles of design are interpreted in conceptual manner. The first analysis I interpreted the house is the dialectic relation between open and closed, or as defined respectively in the house as public and private. Th...

Simplicity VS Complexity

By Logeshwaran Muthu    Simplicity, “as a process of adhering to the essence of use, to lack of ornament, and to mimesis of the technical reproducibility and expressive rigor of utensils, has, as we know, been to the most prominent and common stylistic banner of modernity in this century.” by Vittorio Gregotti in philosophical text. For complexity, ‘is like elements which are hybrid rather than “pure,” compromising rather than “clean,” distorted rather than “straightforward,” ambiguous rather than “articulated,” perverse as well as impersonal, boring as well as “interesting,” conventional rather than “designed,” accommodating rather than excluding, redundant rather than simple, vestigial as well as innovating, inconsistent and equivocal rather than direct and clear.” by Robert Venturi in reflective text article.    Simplicity, “ as a process of adhering to the essence of use, to lack of ornament, and to mimesis of the technical reproducibility and ex...
