Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is based on a French science fiction comics series called Valerian and Laureline, created by writer Pierre Christin and artist Jean-Claude Mézières. 

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, take place in the 28th century, Valerian and Laureline are a team of special operatives charged with maintaining order throughout the human territories. Under a assignment from the Minister of Defense, the two embark on a mission to the astonishing city of  Alfa. 

Its Climate condition is sets on the outer space environment, where people live in a station called "ALPHA". Alpha is an enormous space station that has grown into an expansive and visually stunning city of interconnected worlds. Centuries ago, Alpha was in orbit around the earth, but now its the center of Intergalactic diplomacy and home to thousands of alien species from across the universe. These species have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence and cultures with each other for the betterment of all. 

Alfa have been growing since 1985 and currently has diameter of 22.4miles and population of almost 20 million inhabitants made up of 3,236 species speaking of 5,000 language.

 In order to travel they require a spaceship for example THE INTRUDER. The spaceship piloted by Valerian and Laureline allow them to travel anywhere in space and time.

They are also several dangers, this is due to the over population with various type of alien and others. In this movie there is a mystery at the center of Alpha, a dark force with threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousands Planets, and Valerian and Laueline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguards not just Alpha. but the future of the universe.

There are various of landscape found in this movie, but the most beautiful landscape are the Planet Mul which filled with beaches and unique architecture. The Mul people treasure the nature and surrounding making a it a lifestyle, they are less prone to modern technology. 

There are animals in this planet called "Melo",and the Mul people are animal loving and caring towards them. Melo is able to duplicate an object if feed to them, due to the extinction of theses animal it gain attention to black market making it as a converter.


The Society and economy in Alpha are balance.  Every species have their own tasks and scope of works, they serve their own purpose in the station. Every species are sharing their knowledge and technology, they live in peace and harmony. Alpha has sufficient resources to survive and different location to live for every species in Alpha.

There are unbalance power in the world, which they are instructed their boss in order to make a living. For example are the  sexy shape-shifting alien named Bubble. Which she wish to be free and
live her own life instead of being an entertainer in a Red-Light district. Valerian promise to free Bubbles if she agree to help him to rescue his partner Laureline. She agree to help Valerian, but in during the rescue Bubble was injured, on her last breath she was happy that Valerian understand and accepting her for who she is.

Power can change and manipulate the ethnic and moral construct.The boundaries of right and wrong, legal and illegal. In the past, They were living peacefully on the planet Mül when two other technologically advanced races, one of them humans, fought a war in space above their planet. The human commander ordered the firing of a doomsday weapon, against the protests of his subordinates. That weapon destroyed the enemy spaceships, but it also destroyed Mül.

 In the end when Valerian and Laureline interrogate Commander Flitt it was him who was responsible for the destruction of Mül and that he tried to eradicate all evidence that the planet he destroyed was inhabited. 

The Mul people have this ritual for communication.As many different races having their way to communicate and greeting other, such as bowing, handshake or wave,but for The Mul People they greet others by waving their hand from the forehead. 

The Mul people cherish what nature gave to them and the believe to return what have nature given to them. When they harvest the pearl given by nature, the selected pearl will then feed to Melo ( the animal found in Mul Planet), so it would duplicate and drops in to well as an offering to return what have given from the nature.

Every single living species regarding what type of species and race,they still have emotion and feelings and willing to risk their life for their love one. For example Valerian was lost in the center of Alpha also know as the danger zone, without knowing what is going to happen Laureline insist  to search and rescue Valerian. Not only this, The Mul people decided to forgive what the human did to their planet and their princess, they chose to forgive and forget for what the human did. Everyone have their own difficulties in life, is how u going to face it in life.

Art play an important role in life. It can help us reduce stress and to entertain yourself. for example in the movie are creative is important to expand their technology and to develop a better living condition of different species in Alpha. Other than that performing arts located in the Red Light District which Bubble met Velerian while performing a live show. In other district of Boulan Bathor show an art where they perform by serving dishes to their lord, which may be an art to them.

Content some species are satisfied to be living in Alpha to have a simple and well organised lifestyle, but as for Bubbles she prefer to find her own kind and recognize by other for what she is and not what she is not. As for the Mul people they prefer to restore their homeland and live the life they used to. 


Architecture are important in every movie not only in this movie, every single living object require shelter and suitable environment to stay. The futuristic spacecraft Alpha require different environment and space  for each and every species on board. Every species, planet has its own unique architecture styles. Every architecture has their own character and design to suit the environment. For example The planet Mul is a peaceful planet which surrounded by the beautiful nature itself.
