Simplicity and complexity are most discussed topic in the field of architecture.

“Designing a simple building has become a very complicated problem” – Vittorio   Gregotti

I would like to discuss my project,  I choose  from Design 03 Sem 03. I have designed a gallery located at section 7, Shah Alam. In my view I consider my building type as ‘SIMPLICITY’.  Because of its function, appearance and its design influences.

On the start, my gallery is based on simplicity because it design aspect based on the simple geometric arrangement of grids. It appears to be simple because of constant distance between grids. To achieve this fine and practical layout floor plan, we struggle constantly during our tutorial. The building achieved maximum simplicity, because of spanning of column that gave spacious inside the gallery. In addition to that the building elements such as the natural lightning, ventilation, circulation in and out through the building, thus apparently looks minimal because of the human circulation integrated along the building landscape. Another aspects of simplicity in my building is use of form. Its simple geometrical shapes of rectangle and square. Which blend along the site with surrounding buildings.
One of the main ideas behind creating this form is to be minimalistic and as well simple. But it includes all fundamentals of art gallery, arrangement of spaces within the building makes so comfort for the users. The façade to the entrance, I made it so clean and simple for attraction among other buildings. In my personal opinion simplicity is equal to difficulty because of the quote

‘A building is simple not because it is shapes conform to elementary geometry, not because all of its immediately visible or because the logic is evident in its connection but because all its parts voice their necessity’- Vittorio Gregotti

With experience comes an understanding of the need for simplicity of structure, which leads to a simplicity of form & the use of basic materials. Balance, proportion, scale & context are all carefully considered my design for the art gallery . The gallery As a result, I would rather decide this project as a simplicity works than complexity. Because it took lots of thinking, analyzing for the users, for the artist and for the public to access my art gallery. To make it functional and construction

Thus I believe in today’s world simplicity is more important than complexity as simplicity is a simplified and derived product of complex ideas and solving various type of problems and compromises. “Simplicity can be reached through great effort, but it is never a good starting point, nor, above all an objective at any cost” – Vittorio Gregotti,’ on simplicity’

To conclude I agree with Vittorio Gregotti quote on simplicity

“Eloquent simplicity can be reached through great effort, but it is never a good starting point, nor above all, an objective at any cost. Architecture is not simple; it can only become simple”

SIMPLICITY AND COMPLEXITY

SIMPLICITY AND COMPLEXITY Regards of simplicity and complexity which we had discussed from the lecture today, I will be discussing about the design project that I had developed during my Year 2 Sem3. In the project, we are required to design a Art Gallery in a specific site which located in Shah Alam. The reasons I choose this specific project is because I find that the layout design and outcome of the building suits well to the ‘Simplicity’ concept. Simplicity ,t he result is a beautiful rhythmic quality. Repetition with a simple expression of materials creates the  architecture's simplicity .  The building basically is a two storey building which blend in with natural and modern element.   From the ground floor , the first thing we can see is  the lobby and the reception area which is located in the middle of the building. As the building is purpose for the people who doing quilting activity , so the lobby is set at a moderate area whi...
