The Could Haves in UCSI's Architecture

In Architecture School, there should have a freedom in exploration unexplored ideas. Unfortunately, UCSI produces top quality students, but projects were clearly were already been there and done that. Ideas that are not being explore and the lecturer's in studios do not know how to entertain the idea.

Coming from a diploma course, we were allowed to explore ideas that are crazy and out of the box. But in Degree, we were force to be mould into something else rather than enhancing our own style in architecture. It frustrates and the stress is overwhelming because within the tutorials, the lecturers provided some ideas to progress, but when done exactly as what the lecturer provided, with a few of my ideas to apply, we were criticise with passion.

The stage and mission of a project at a particular semester, we were suppose to focus on the design concept, the idea and learning process of the design then only the technical details. Unfortunately, the learning system, was in chaos and causes a lot of confusion and the implications towards the ideas of what design and the process is complete disorder.

With a proper system in teaching, we would be able to understand more if the system was properly followed through and even when ideas were being not completely accepted, but teaching how we can improve in design thinking.

The journey in diploma from the beginning until the final semester, was a more memorable journey because the teaching system was in order, and the knowledge that is passed down to us are absorb with interest and passion.

When I entered the degree semester, there was no proper flow of transitional design journey. We were so caught up in impressing the lecturers and satisfying their needs through us, that at the end of the day, I do not recognise myself.

The current semester is a much improvement in teaching because the lecturers let us know that our ideas matter. They listen, and criticise with purpose and letting us know what works.  They assist and provide guidance in design thinking. There were major difference to the semester before.

IF the teaching in this current semester applied at the earlier semester in degree, we would have carried a much better progress in design and communication in technical details. With a good base of foundation of guidance and proper knowledge being applied to help us enhance our ideas, we would have gotten off on a better feet. We could stand with confidence and communicate our ideas more often rather than being afraid of being disapprove.

There is a quote saying, a good architecture, is to be able to see God in the details. If our own uniqueness is suppressed and moulded into something the heart doesn't agree, where is God in the details?

SIMPLICITY AND COMPLEXITY

SIMPLICITY AND COMPLEXITY Regards of simplicity and complexity which we had discussed from the lecture today, I will be discussing about the design project that I had developed during my Year 2 Sem3. In the project, we are required to design a Art Gallery in a specific site which located in Shah Alam. The reasons I choose this specific project is because I find that the layout design and outcome of the building suits well to the ‘Simplicity’ concept. Simplicity ,t he result is a beautiful rhythmic quality. Repetition with a simple expression of materials creates the  architecture's simplicity .  The building basically is a two storey building which blend in with natural and modern element.   From the ground floor , the first thing we can see is  the lobby and the reception area which is located in the middle of the building. As the building is purpose for the people who doing quilting activity , so the lobby is set at a moderate area whi...
