Proportion & Organisation

Proportion is the relationship between parys to things in particular harmonious, proper or desirable relationship and the balance of symmetry.

Proportion, is a subjective term in architecture, a comparable similarity to how we judge aesthetics in architecture. Throughout centuries, proportion had been discovered through mathematics such as the golden ratio, a series of number that claimed to be found in all the natural occurrences. Through the 3 articles that discusses proportion and organization, there is more aspect than those ‘magic’ numbers, like symmetry and asymmetry which is widely discussed in Colin Rowe’s The Mathematics of Ideal Villa that compares Le Corbusier’s Villa Savoye and Palladio’s Villa Capra. As I described above, proportion can be seen as the bridge between mathematics and art, which its results would compose elements appear pleasingly harmonious, either symmetrically or asymmetrically.

Determine the separation or connection between similar or dissimilar uses helps to clarify aspects of use and establishes similarity or contrast between spaces. Organisation means two different ideas in architecture
Organisational space : the influence of the spatial environment                                                                                       effecting human behaviour and sensation and around a space, such as circulation.
Organisation design: the creative process, support a culture of creativity, and build a structure and organisation in relationship for design.
Nowadays,Organisation reflects spatial environment on the health, the mind, and the behaviour of humans in and around the building itself. It draws from space planning and architecture add with knowledge from, for instance, environmental contexthuman communicate, or spatial science. Organisation is based on his design on a lifestyle stand point, the creation of the modern house for modern living, function based. It is highlighted in his planning of houses, the idea of circulation within the house.

"Proportion provokes sensation"
- Le Corbusier

“A machine for living in, an arrangement of interpenetrating volumes, and spaces, and emanation of space-time”
- Colin Rowe

“stressed the value of proportioning individual spaces, especially relationships between plans and sections of a single space”
- Andrea Palladio

  • CCTV defies the skyscraper’s typical quest for ultimate height. Rising from a common platform, two towers lean towards each other and eventually merge in a perpendicular, 75- metre cantilever. The design combines the entire process of TV-making – formerly scattered in various locations across the city – into a loop of interconnected activities. It is somehow demonstrating of both principles of proportion and organisation in one building with the design concept they approach.

  • Image result for petronas twin towersThe towers were designed by the architectural firm of Cesar Pelli and Associates. Due to the prevalent Islamic culture of Malaysia, Pelli chose a geometric pattern common to Muslim heritage. The pattern consists of two rotated squares, with circle infills where the squares intersect. This geometric figure has been described by architects as symbols of "unity, harmony, stability and rationality - all important principles of Islam". The circular pattern rises consistently to the top of the building, while getting smaller and smaller in circumference. There are also two smaller, 40-story circular bustles attached to each building for additional office space.

Proportion & organisation is a must in relating to human habitation & functioning. As Le Corbusier once said, " To create architecture is to put in order. Put what in order? Function and objects.” By applying the correct proportion and a suitable organisation, an optimum living environment would be create, a building which suits its function and its easy for human to access , to get into , to circulate inside , and with stable form - which relating to proportion. The function of the space , achieved by the arrangement of them , and the objects , definitely means by the proportion of them. Thus, a functional building or spaces are only exist when full filling all the requirements that Le Corbusier stated before. Since the outlook is a golden ratio, more over the interlocking of every single spaces are excellent , the building is to be said as a successWithout these two term as guidance , building is metaphor as a structure , just a frame ,without feeling , without life.

    SIMPLICITY AND COMPLEXITY

SIMPLICITY AND COMPLEXITY Regards of simplicity and complexity which we had discussed from the lecture today, I will be discussing about the design project that I had developed during my Year 2 Sem3. In the project, we are required to design a Art Gallery in a specific site which located in Shah Alam. The reasons I choose this specific project is because I find that the layout design and outcome of the building suits well to the ‘Simplicity’ concept. Simplicity ,t he result is a beautiful rhythmic quality. Repetition with a simple expression of materials creates the  architecture's simplicity .  The building basically is a two storey building which blend in with natural and modern element.   From the ground floor , the first thing we can see is  the lobby and the reception area which is located in the middle of the building. As the building is purpose for the people who doing quilting activity , so the lobby is set at a moderate area whi...

Valerian and the city of a thousand planets Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets   is based on a French science fiction comics series called  Valerian and  Laureline , created by writer Pierre Christin and artist Jean-Claude Mézières.  Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets,  take place in the 28th century, Valerian and Laureline are a team of special operatives charged with maintaining order throughout the human territories. Under a assignment from the Minister of Defense, the two embark on a mission to the astonishing city of  Alfa.  Its Climate condition is sets on the outer space environment , where people live in a station called " ALPHA ". Alpha is an enormous space station that has grown into an expansive and visually  stunning city of interconnected worlds. Centuries ago, Alpha was in orbit around the earth, but now its the center of Intergalactic diplomacy and home to thousands of alien species...
