FORM
“refer to shape, structure, or appearance: custom or conduct; a document or outline; linguistics; or fitness or health” by Adrian Forty in the philosophical text. Form also can defined as the shape or configuration of a building.

Architects should design a building based on the purpose of that building. Function, which came as encompassing all criteria of use, perception, and enjoyment of a building, not only the practical aspects but also in terms of aesthetic, psychological, and cultural. Also can be defined as a building or a space based on the purpose of it, non the space is being ignored or wasted in use.

Form and function could not be separated but architect could set the priority between form and function. In this age of transformation, we have discover a lot of transformation of function in buildings even the form of the building does not really suite the function.

"Event, movement, and spaces
were analytically juxtaposed
in mutual tension, the work moved
 toward an increasingly
synthetic attitude, every event
can fix in the spaces,
depends on how you satisfied
with the feeling in it"

by Bernard Tschumi

Adaptive reuse refers to the reuse of place or buildings for purpose other than they were originally built or designed for. These new uses can offer economic, social and cultural benefits to their environments. As well, reuse is one approach to sustainability since it conserves original durable building materials. Adaptive reuse deals with issues of conservation and preservation of built heritage as well as strategies and policies. Once old structures become unsuitable for their functional and programmatic requirements, adaptive reuse becomes a sustainable option for reclamation of sites.

From the architect Ricardo Bofill 1973 discovered an abandoned   cement factory, an industrial building from the turn of the century consisting of over 30 silos, subterranean galleries and massive machine rooms, and he decided to transform it into the main office of Taller de Arquitectura. It took 2 years of reconstruction and coming up with new design. The factory, disused and partially in ruins, was a compendium of surrealist elements for example stairs that reach from one point to nowhere, reinforced concrete structures that withstand to non, iron pieces dangling in the air, large empty spaces filled nonetheless with something we not know of.

In this case adaptive reuse as an approach for preservation of modern industrial heritage. Many industrial buildings continue to be ignored by much of the conservation community because they are still considered as nuisances and eyesores. They are frequently unnoticed also because their environment has deteriorated, the landscape is contaminated, and it is considered that their architecture is unexceptional. This attitude ignores the notable detailing, character-defining elements, and careful use of public spaces usually found in industrial complexes.

Saving factory architecture speaks to the belief that these structures have the potential to transform the architectural fabric. Unfortunately, the anonymous lives of the many employees who worked hard under deplorable conditions are hardly ever acknowledged. Therefore, the questions we ask should be: ‘What has this structure been?’ and ‘What could this industrial structure turn into?’ Posing these questions will result in transformations that are mindful of the buildings' past.

Rejuvenation of the historical and cultural values of an industrial building is one worthwhile approach to adaptive reuse. When the historical industrial building was initially in use, it served a specific function in the community. It offered character to an area and created a ‘sense of place’; acting as a link to the past is a significant attribute of historical buildings. It is possible to create a diverse neighbourhood through different building types from different periods by not demolishing these structures but maintaining and improving them in a way that emphasises essential characteristics. Also, decreasing the number of unoccupied or derelict buildings will help reduce both the crime rate and the incidence of antisocial activities in their area.

Furthermore, adaptive reuse projects can help to revitalize the surrounding neighbourhood  thereby providing economic benefits for both the municipality and the developer.

SIMPLICITY AND COMPLEXITY

SIMPLICITY AND COMPLEXITY Regards of simplicity and complexity which we had discussed from the lecture today, I will be discussing about the design project that I had developed during my Year 2 Sem3. In the project, we are required to design a Art Gallery in a specific site which located in Shah Alam. The reasons I choose this specific project is because I find that the layout design and outcome of the building suits well to the ‘Simplicity’ concept. Simplicity ,t he result is a beautiful rhythmic quality. Repetition with a simple expression of materials creates the  architecture's simplicity .  The building basically is a two storey building which blend in with natural and modern element.   From the ground floor , the first thing we can see is  the lobby and the reception area which is located in the middle of the building. As the building is purpose for the people who doing quilting activity , so the lobby is set at a moderate area whi...
